Next Steps

Whether you are just exploring issues of faith in Jesus, are a new believer, or have been a follower of Jesus for years, we all have Next Steps to take in our walk with Christ.

Salvation: We believe that God created the world and everything in it, including you, and he wants a personal, one-on-one relationship with you today. Everyone has an opinion of Jesus. Some call him a great teacher, some call him a prophet of God, while others believe that he did not exist at all. Whatever you believe, we can agree that Jesus has changed the conversation in the world. We believe that he wants to change us, too. Jesus said that He is the way, the truth and the life and that no one comes into a love relationship with God except through Him (John 14:6). God, the creator of the universe, has a purpose for your life. He loves you and wants to help you. You don't have to measure up to some impossible standard to walk with God. You just nee to take the first step. Believing in Jesus is the first step on the greatest journey of your life. It may be just the start, but the best is yet to come.

Baptism: Baptism is all about making a public declaration of your faith. It is you communicating to the world your heart-felt commitment to follow Jesus. It is the next step after Salvation. Jesus Himself was baptized before He began His public ministry. He wanted to identify with us who would follow Him (Matthew 3:13-17). People often have questions regarding baptism: Why should I be baptized? I've already been baptized; do I have to do it again? Does it matter if someone is sprinkled or dunked? For answers to those questions, listen to the message "What is Baptism?".

Ownership:  We believe every follower of Jesus should belong to a local church and take ownership of that church. This includes serving, giving and participating in biblical community. Members have rights, owners have responsibilities.  We offer monthly ownership classes where our lead pastor or one of our staff pastors will explain the mission and vision of Connections Church. In this class, we explain the four core values of this church: Found People Find People, Saved People Serve People, Growing People Grow With People, and Changed People Change.

Starting Point: At Connections we believe that wherever you are in your life, whatever is going on, you will always have a next step to take as you grow in your relationship with Jesus. Have you ever asked the question, “I believe in Jesus; now what?’  Jesus taught us that there are two basic commands to follow: Love God and love others as yourself (Mark 12:30-31). At Connections we want to help you grow in your walk with Jesus.  We provide a group called Starting Point that will help you better understand what this new life in Jesus is all about.  We’ll help you understand what God is saying to you through his love letter, the Bible. You have a community of people around you that wants to walk beside you in your new journey of faith.

Life Groups: One of our core values at Connections is that Growing People Grow With People. Life Groups are just that, groups of people doing life together.  We all have next steps to take in our walk with Jesus so why not do it with friends. Join a Group and you’ll learn why we believe that you can’t do life alone.
The goal of joining a group is to grow in your walk with Jesus around people that can support you in taking your next steps. We believe life is better when you live in community. There are Group options available for children, teens, Married Couples, Coed, Men and Women. We want to help you find the best fit.
Groups meet on different days and times during the week, in homes, at church and even coffee shops and restaurants. Don’t do life alone.  Join a Life Group today.

StrengthsFinder: StrengthsFinder is a tool that Connections uses to help people find their innate talents and develop them into strengths.  We believe, that in all the history of the world, God has made you a unique creation. That no two people are exactly alike. Some of us are quiet, yet others are more outgoing.  Some people can adapt to their surroundings where others find their comfort in having a plan. We believe that God wants us to concentrate on developing out unique talents, instead of focusing on our deficiencies.  If we can identify our talents and develop them into strengths, we can step into the plans God has for us.

First Serve: We understand that starting to serve can be a scary thing.  Where do I go, what do I do, what if I start something and find out that it doesn’t work for me?  These are all very valid questions. At Connections, there are many opportunities to serve.  We want you to find that opportunity that best suits your passion, personality and availability. If you are ready to serve, there are so many places to start, like the ministries listed below:

  • Collide – our middle/high school age ministry. This is where students are challenged to grow in their faith. Be a part of seeing their lives being changed.

  • KidsConnect – our nursery/elementary age ministry. This is where we help kids from birth to 5th grade learn about Jesus on their level. You can serve kids in a safe, clean and fun environment.

  • Guest Services – Help create welcoming environments for every guest at Connections. From providing snacks, to greeting, and set up and tear down, the goal is to make our worship environment an awesome experience.

  • Production – Help to provide excellent services that engage everyone. There are opportunities to serve with audio, video, worship and lighting.

Generosity: Would you like to ‘win’ with your finances?  When we manage our finances God’s way, the results are life changing.  Is your next step tithing, budgeting, or one-on-one coaching?  Let’s get started and find out. Most people cringe whenever churches talk about money.  Let’s face it, it is not a fun topic, plus it’s intensely personal.  God does not want your money, He wants your heart.  God is a giver, and the best way that we can start living fulfilling lives, is to start living lives of generosity. Once a year, Connections offers a Life Group specifically focused on managing our finances.  Our thought is that if we can get out of debt and loosen the binds that our finances place on us, we’ll be able to live in freedom and follow Jesus.

Missions: Jesus taught us that we are to be ‘salt and light’ in our world. (Matthew 5:13-16)  So, what exactly does that mean?  At Connections, we believe that Saved People Serve people.  We believe that we are on mission for Jesus wherever we are. Connections is involved in mission work in our local community through various efforts such as our clothing drives and home repair teams.  We are also active in other parts of the country through short term mission trips and we have partnered with the 410 Bridge in working with a community of fellow believers in Kenya, Africa. Jesus told us to be his witnesses in Jerusalem (the area where you live), and in Judea (the region or country where you live) and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8)
Whatever and wherever your passion is, you will find a place to be ‘salt and light.’
